Here's a timeline breakdown for an Indentured Apprentice (registered in an approved LWC training program). SPBLA registered apprentices may perform the work of both natural gas and plumbing under the direct, constant on-the-job supervision of a licensed plumber or gas fitter. All apprentices in an approved LWC Program will require less on-the-job training hours when applying for examinations.
Estimate timeline breakdown for an Indentured Apprentice: Apprentices will work an estimate of 1000 hours every 6 months and will be required to take an 72 hour semester twice a year - one in the Spring and one in the Fall 1000 Hours - 6 months 2000 Hours - 1 year 3000 Hours - 1.5 years: Qualify for SPBLA Residential Plumber Exam and the Natural Gas Fitter Exam 4000 Hours - 2 years 5000 Hours - 2.5 years 6000 Hours - 3 years 7000 Hours - 3.5 years: Qualify for the SPBLA Journeyman Plumber Exam
Qualifications for Apprenticeship: Applicants will meet the following minimum qualifications. These qualification standards, and the score required on any standard for admission to the applicant pool, must be directly related to job performance, as shown by a statistical relationship between the score required for admission to the pool and performance in the apprenticeship program:
Age
Minimum qualifications required by the sponsor for persons entering the apprenticeship program, with an eligible starting age not less than 17 years. Applicants shall submit reliable proof of birth date with the complete application to ensure they meet the age requirement. Examples of acceptable proof include: a valid driver’s license, a birth certificate, or other State identification.
Physical
Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
